The Independent Laboratory Employees Union is a small, independent, labor union. We represent the FLSA covered workers at the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co., located in Annandale, NJ.
Through the ILEU, workers maintain the right to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing, as a means of securing better terms and conditions of employment. Additionally, the ILEU engages in concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining and other mutual aid and protection, as a way to promote the social, intellectual and material welfare and advancement of our members.
The main purpose of this web site is to keep the members of the ILEU informed . The Union needs a modern way to communicate with its membership, and the internet provides a fast, economical way to do just that. That being said, there is no single means of communication that will serve all of our needs. The internet has become a resource that is now found in most American homes that contain a computer. This allows access to the majority of our membership whether thay are at home or work.
Information that can be made public will appear on this web site. However, it must be understood that a great many things that happen in a labor union require privacy, and the knowledge of these situations or events must be restricted to just a few people. When a person suffers a poor performance review, that person generally would prefer as few folks as possible to know of their situation. Similarly, if someone is disciplined, privacy is paramount to the individual involved. This type of information will never be found on these pages. Other information that cannot be published would be tactical information, that would affect the bargaining relationship with the Company. Strategies used in collective bargaining must not be discussed publicly, as this is one of the few tools that can provide an advantage to a labor union. To let this information leak, would be to lose that advantage.
Information that isn't published here may be obtained through the Union's Executive Board. The contact pages provide a means to email the Union's Officers, Delegates, and Shop Stewards. The advantage to using our contact pages is that they use our servers to send email, and eliminates the need to use the Company's email servers which are not private. If you need information, and don't know who to contact specifically, you should use the Ask the ILEU page. This email is monitored several times a day and the email is forwarded to the appropriate Union personnel for their response. Even if the information is private, you will always receive a response, generally within 1 business day.
The ILEU web site has been around for over 10 years, and it certainly needed a face-lift. We at the ILEU hope you enjoy this re-design!
